A wikiwatch summary 4th of December 2010

Just found this on guru:

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/7...t10461320.html

In answer to a question on John Stumme's wiki feedback page

"To answer the original question - the early part of next year. There's something pretty awesome going into that build in addition to the Hero / Embark Beach stuff along with some other improvements to the game. We'll probably be talking about it more as we get closer to it being released, for now the focus is on Wedding/Wintersday."

Nice find by Darcy (the OP in the Guru post).

FYI, Dervish update will be out before hero/embark update too.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Feedb...Dervish_Update

"It's the other way around, actually. I've put off the Embark build until the Dervish stuff is out, that way there's no conflicts of programming resources for Robert. So, Dervish update will be out before then. John Stumme 17:28, 3 December 2010 (UTC)"

(Can a mod please edit the title to reflect the Dervish Update info? Thanks.)

PS by Gorani: I've merged this with a new post with a different thread title and some more info, but kept BladeDVD's post on top to recognize the "first find first to post".|||After the Live Team and the CR people pretty much left the official wiki (not posting for a very long time) and we redesigned the forums here (and took the CRW forum off line) I haven't browsed the wiki until now. When I returned today I found some posts by Live Team lead John Stumme that might be interesting:

Gwen's reunion with Sarah

Quote:

If you've read comic books much, this is probably something you're familiar with - when the character remains the same, but the author changes hands. One person may feel that Batman should be a brilliant detective, while someone else might feel he should be an abusive psychopath. Way back in the Eye of the North days, I wrote the Underworld and Gwen returns to Ascalon content with the assumption that I was writing the end of her story. It was meant to provide resolution to her past, some signs that she would be living out a better future, and that would be that. I didn't know back then that her story would be revisited, and that much of her former angst was going to be brought back - but it's something I've tried to resolve again with the upcoming content. I really feel like she deserves to get a happy ending, so that we can move on and start to tell some new stories. So, sorry about any of the confusion that this might have caused - but on the bright side, at least we don't have decades worth of retconning for people to wade through in explanation of why a character has died and returned to life dozens of times. ^^; John Stumme 18:27, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Something I always wondered about is how enemies and allies in EOTN and WiK came to have profs and skills not native to Tyria, ie sin/rit/derv/para. I don't recall any sort of lore reason ever being given for that.

Quote:

Indeed. NPCs don't follow the same rules that players do, and trying to apply them is only the road to madness. One can start to wonder why unintelligent creatures use skills that are clearly associated with following certain gods, or why bugs can be Paragons that use the same anthems that players do. At some point the answer becomes "because it's a game," and this is the price that we pay for choosing to have NPCs/enemies use player skills and professions, as opposed to creating unique skills for them. Players would also be able to change their profession if it weren't for the fact that every profession uses a different rig, and that all armors have unique versions for each rig - players would literally need to re-roll themselves, and get rid of all of their armor and start over. This is just one of those cases where mechanics and lore need to be a bit more divorced from one another. (Divorce seems to be a popular word getting bandied about the forums these days. Bwahaha.) Hi John, I had a couple questions about some WiK content that I'm hoping you could answer if you have the time. There's a bit of a debate about who Rigo Bolan actually is since Lt. Thackeray says, "There is actually a sixth member of the falcons. You may have already met him without realizing it.

You know, I'm actually not sure. Have you tried asking Linsey? I can at least say this much about the Ebon Vanguard: Joe is kind of bummed that no one thinks that the Ebon Vanguard Sniper Support fellow is actually Keiran. John Stumme 19:50, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Lunatic Court Quests (so far)

Quote:

Thanks! I'm glad to see that, overall, Halloween went over so well. I know that there were some people who were a little disappointed that the Lunatic Court quest line didn't resolve itself this year (and just what is the deal with that Lich, anyway?) but that doesn't mean we're dropping the storyline entirely until next Halloween. Some little reverberations of what's going on might be felt along the way. John Stumme 18:56, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

more on "why Gwen & Keiran"

The player character is going to be considerably more involved in Winds of Change, for certain. I don't want the player to just be a bystander for the story. As for the wedding - are your thoughts on emotes predicated on it being a traditional wedding? Since we are in a fantasy setting, there can be different ways of going about things. As for Gwen, well, it's really a case of an NPC taking on a life of their own. I'd like the wedding to be a fitting cap point to her story for some time to come though, so that we can focus on telling new stories. And also to take a break from all of the romance. ^^; John Stumme 00:02, 13 November 2010 (UTC)|||Found this on guru:

Dervish Update

Quote:

We're planning to release something about it, yeah. I don't have a specific date for it since skill balance is Robert's domain, but I do think people will be surprised when they see just how much went into the update. Hint: it's not just a bunch of number changes. John Stumme 22:06, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

As a reminder, this was from a KillTenRats interview a little while ago

Quote:

As for the Dervish update, it has been seeing good progress although it’s temporarily on hold while this year’s Costume Brawl is being worked on – since there’s new costumes and builds being added. For those curious, the Dervish update is looking to include some new mechanics for the class to make it more feasible to play – it’s more than just a matter of changing skill numbers around. We’re trying to address issues such as other classes being better with scythes than the Dervish itself, which offers very little incentive to play one as your primary profession.

On why the wait for Full Hero Parties

Quote:

To answer why we don't do it right now, there are things that we can do that will make this a better experience to go along with it. If you release something early, no matter how much you message "Hey, it will get better down the line," that seldom gets through. What you end up with is initially "This sucks," and then the improvements feel reactive, rather than proactive. It was an intentional choice on my part to let people know "Hey, we're going to be doing this," because I feel like it's better to let people know what's going on, and to give them something to look forward to. The price I pay is of course is "Why isn't this out yet?" (or my personal favorite that I've seen so far: I only care about costumes. Lulz.) But I would rather that people have something to want than to wonder what's even going on at all. John Stumme 22:46, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

There was speculation in the guru thread that this meant they might be working on preset party formations, or AI improvements for melee characters. I'm going to take full hero parties as being the main thing and anything else they add as being bonus rather than get my hopes up. lol|||Improving melee hero AI was definitely mentioned in one of the wiki things, but don't ask me for the link, I can never find anything over there.|||What would be REALLY good is if they could develop a way to make better formations with one flag click, instead of having to take like... a minute to set up heros in different positions before you pull a potentially lethal AOE super group or such.

Dunno how to ask him a question, but something I hear bandied about and I'm wondering as well, will the upcoming GW:B in factions require the player to have finished all the proph GW:B material?

Meaning, if say you have an account with only factions and maybe eye of the north, will you be screwed out of new content?|||What specifically does the Derv update relate to? I assume it is more than simple tweaking and I would guess it's a major overhaul of the whole class.|||The dervish update is going to be huge, and if it's anything like the 'rumors' I've heard, it's going to be quite impressive and will make me love Anet forever. But of course, those are rumors... that cannot be trusted, ever.

Finally, my title hunter will have things to do other than look pretty and collect titles!

Well, one can hope...|||Quote:

Its been stated that for the Canthan part of GW:B that you only need to have finished Factions in order to access it.
