Bringing back the Dev tracker threads?

[:1]Hey guys

I've been seeing the topics about trying to bring more life into GWonline and attract new people to the forums, and wanted to make a suggestion and see what people thought about it.

Basically before i joined, one of the main reasons i came to GWOnline was because of the dev tracker thread and the nicely consolidate Gaile chat logs, i believe it was run by Gorani mostly back then? It was nice to have a single location to come and see all the latest info from Gaile and random posts by the devs and such all compiled into one place.

But after Gaile switched jobs and the chats stopped the need for it kinda died, and so it was removed, but back them it was the first place i came to when i logged into GWOnline.

But since Regina and co are more active these days with responding to the community, both here and on GW2Guru, i was wondering what people thought to having a single thread stickied at the top of the General discussion forum for posting Dev posts regarding GW1 news.

An example of this is looking at John Stummes page on the wiki, where at the bottom it says.

This to me is hinting at Winds Of Change beginning next month, could be something else entirely, but its something that can be discussed if more people knew about it.

So what i thought was how about a stickied thread in the GW1 General discussion where people can post GW1 related information from Dev talk pages or posts on other sites / forums / wiki's, and also one in the GW2 general discussion for dev posts regarding Guild Wars 2?

The first post of both threads could have direct links to the places Anet usually post info (So links to dev talk pages, the twitter accounts, the blog etc etc" so that the community can easily find these pages, monitor them, and when a nice bit of info appears, it can be posted in the thread for everyone to see, then a discussion thread can be created to actually discuss the info revealed (Unless its for something like Winds of Change where they just add it as a new post in the existing topic)

But for those who don't want to go through an entire topic just to see if there is any new news, they can go right to the dev info topic and see all the new news if any, all neatly consolidated and easily accessible.

So what does everyone think of this?

- Tsukasa|||so it was here before? i thought i saw something similair back then

good idea, maybe more people post here once its here

and being here is much better (imo) than on guru, where i only see "make the game harder" posts (as i prefer fun far over challenging)

giving this example as they DO have a dev tracker

and yea, stumme is pretty active, some others also like to post now and then

i see no bad points and a very good point if this should happen

so all i can say is:

/signed + /agree (whichever you like most)|||Quote:

The problem with the wiki watch forum has been the fact, that CR people (Martin, Regina) stopped posting on the wiki and Regina left too.

When the "blue team" remodelled the forums, we decided to mothball the wiki watch.

I don't see a lot of change on the Dev output since those days. The people active on the official wiki even made a section for "people who have not posted in 2011"

Much new stuff is announced via online/print magazines and interviews. We try to cover that by posting news items on the front page of the site (yes, it exists!).

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see more Dev activity we could hunt down and share, but I just can not see it (...if it is on Guru, I don't know, because I don't visit that site more than once a months, perhaps)|||@ Ayuhmii

Thanks for the support, and yes John is pretty active (Though he seems to have gone quiet atm......WoC inbound perhaps?), and since he is leading the Live team atm, then hes the perfect source of info, especially with his little hints and such.

That's fair enough Gorani.

I was just thinking that rather than a place for major news or events (Since those get their own thread dedicated to them anyway), it could be used for little things such as Tweets on Anet's twitter, or the odd cryptic message.

Like in my Original post how John's user page hints "Some big things happening in June", that could have been referring to the PvP update the other week, but there could also be more to come this month, so if that was placed in the sticky topic, its there as reference for people who do not follow the Anet twitter or even know of John's userpage Existence, and would serve as useful for people who don't want to read through 5+ pages of talking to get the direct info.

Or even just little things like how Stephane confirmed that the dragon in Drakkar lake isn't Jormag, nice little tidbit that could generate a topic for the masses to discuss, maybe get some new members joining.

Same could apply to John's wiki posts about WOC being in terms of story, almost the size of a small expansion, and that when it begin's, it will begin with a bang, and not just one or two quests or a dialogue.

Basically it would be the little bits of things Devs talk about across the net in relation to GW1 or GW2, weather it be on another forum, twitter, the wiki etc etc, while the bigger things of cource get dedicated topics right away.

Also while i appreciate the main articles are placed on the front page of the site, ever since i joined here years ago, i have had the forums themselves bookmarked and not the main website page.

So there could be people like me who have only the forums bookmarked, and only check the forums for info, so another source of information on the forums can in theory only boost conversation and awareness.

But i appreciate your points on the decline of Dev activity and the death of the dev topic you used to run (Thank you btw for the work you did on that, it was the reason i joined and a very useful feature for people like me who couldn't get into the Chats before the District filled up.)

I suppose we can wait for other members to reply and see what they think on the matter, was just a way i thought of potentially boosting the forums activity and once again having a specific area for little tidbits of news or hints / cryptic messages.
