Relics of Orr [RO] Presents: Pi[e] Day 2011

In celebration of mathematics and pastries, the Relics of Orr alliance invites you to participate in the first annual Pi[e] Day! Due to the "official" date falling on a weekday (Monday, March 14th, aka 3/14), the event will take place on Sunday, March 13th to ensure the whole of the community is able to participate. The celebration of pie is a timeless tradition, so you are welcome to continue the celebration into Monday if you so choose.

The event will be hosted in Rata Sum in International District 1 from 8pm GMT (4pm EST) to 10pm GMT (6pm EST). If the event is as big as we hope it will be, we may appoint alliance representatives in additional International Districts (it will be announced during the event if this happens). Please note that DST takes effect in the USA on March 13th.

Tasha will be on the digital turntables providing music and announcements during the event on Split Infinity Radio. Please contact her via email (tasha AT siradio DOT fm) with any music requests prior to the event. We cannot guarantee your requests will be played, but please feel free to submit them regardless - you never know!

Our friends at Guild Wars 2 Live have been kind enough to host our LiveStream feed, so even if you can�t be in game you can be part of the action!

Remember, the intent of this event is not only to celebrate the greatest food ever invented as well as the discovery of Pi, but more importantly to bring everyone together for a good time and to promote the best aspect of Guild Wars: the community. Pi[e] Trivia

For the duration of the event, we will be hosting a plethora of pi[e] trivia for anyone that wishes to participate. The first person to correctly answer each trivia question will be acknowledged. Every correct question answered will be given a random prize from the prizes available. Due to latency, the alliance member hosting the trivia at the time and asking the questions will be the judge of who the first person was to answer the trivia correctly. The first person on the trivia host's local chat log to answer correctly will be awarded the prize.

There is a 30-minute time limit, so be efficient! Wikis (1, 2) are your friend!

How to Enter

If you wish to enter the offline contests and/or the raffle, please fill in the information on this form.

Please Note

[01] For all offline contests, no entries will be accepted after 11:59pm GMT on March 12th.

[02] One entry per contest, per person. Multiple entries or spamming the sign up form will void your entry.

[03] You must supply your in-game name for your entry to be valid. It will be held on a publicly viewable area until 21st March, when the details will be deleted.

[04] Once you have submitted the sign up form, your raffle number will be your entry number found on the list of entries.

[05] The offline contests will be judged by a neutral panel headed by members of various community sites.

[06] The raffle will be drawn using random number software (www.random.org) and broadcast on the LiveStream feed.

[07] The results will be posted on this thread and announced in game after the winners are decided.

[08] Items not picked up by winners by 11:59pm GMT on March 21st will be forfeited and placed into storage for future community events.

Question I gotta ask, how does one GET Pi? I mean, how do they calculate it out?

Please describe for not very good math persona like myself.|||From google: the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle; approximately equal to 3.14159265358979323846...

the circumference is how "long" the outer part of the circle is, and the diameter is a straight line that goes from one end to the other in the circle. So essentially circumference/diameter = pi (i hope that helps Noa)



Oh and for the offline contest (now that I've actually read the OP)

Fact about pie: Moon pie is not really pie... that is all.

Reason why pie is better than cake:

This will be a story. My super awesome high school geometry teacher taught me to celebrate pi day by holding up a contest on March 14th. The person in the class who could (correctly) recite pi to the most digits would take their pie of choice home.
