Flux

[:1]So yeah, I just looked it up. My first thought is 'mwuh', but I haven't actually played with it in effect soooo, what's it like?

Also does it accomplish its goals:

The introduction of Flux is a compelling tool to help us keep our competitive formats dynamic, while allowing us to further balance the game. Because slight shifts in the meta are expected from Flux to Flux, it allows us to better target overly problematic builds. If powerful builds can thrive in environments that are not suited to them, we can review the skills to bring them more into line. We want to encourage gameplay where the team that wins does so because they've played more skillfully.|||The current effect is to make and take 10% more damage if you are not close to an ally. This stacks so that if two people meet in a duel away from everyone else, they both do 20% more damage. I have no idea what this is supposed to accomplish. I guess it has an effect on GvG splits: it speeds up the killing of NPCs, I suppose.

Anyway, the idea of Flux is to keep things... in "flux". The effect will change. If this will have an actual effect on the meta or not depends on how strong the current flux effect is.

In my opinion, it's bound to swing between being useless and being a stupid gimmick.|||At the very least, it gives something to think about while playing. The current flux for example makes splitting a more important decision.... to split, or not to split, this is the 10-20% difference.

It's not game-breaking, but I've noticed that some players have changed how they play in response. And if they take advantage of the flux, they can improve their chances of winning.

As for keeping it dynamic, I've heard that GvG tends to split less, or not use the same splits as before. For better or worse, this makes GvG a bit different than it was last month.|||I haven't actually played with this in effect, but the theorizing suggests that it barely has an impact. Splits will be reacted to within a maximum of 30 seconds, which may or may not nullify the Flux.

Another thing to take into the account is what splitting is supposed to accomplish. Is it merely a diversion to draw offense away from the mainteam? If so, then it won't have any effect since at least one of the players will be as passive as possible.

Is it to kill NPC's and eventually go for tiebreaker damage? Then it won't be positive, since the defender will have NPC's as allies and the offensive team will then take an extra 10% damage.

What it does have an effect on is the good old flagpushing. Whether this is positive or not I won't judge. It is however pretty damn boring to play and play against since it immediately forces double/triple running and defensive skirmishing which is far from entertaining.|||It isn't that large an effect even in the lower arenas. About the only time you'll see it do anything is when attacking a point in JQ unopposed. You get the +10% damage but also eat 10% more. Everywhere else, there's enough people, save for (ofc) GVG flag running.|||Flux is awesome if you use your computer when it's dark out. (Which is.. everyone?)

That's what I thought this thread was about when I saw it on the new posts list, anyway.|||New month, new effect.

"There Can Be Only One"

Interesting. Really makes for some hard hits. Suspect that in JQ assassins are jumping each other hard and fast, knowing whoever starts their chain first wins. Might make attacking another warrior worth a try here and there, especially if knock locked.

Sadly I see RoJ monks trying in to beam each other, more now than before.|||Quote:

God ****ing No. Having Assassins in your party almost guarantees dead weight if they only duel each other. If anything, attacking an other class should deal more damage. **** ***** *****. Calling a target Monk 20 times and shouting MONK doesn't get them to stop dueling, this is NOT going to help.|||Elementalists have fun with this new flux.|||Since I can't test it currently - what happens when you mesmer nuke the FA mesmer NPCs? If you throw WW or WD on the mesmer NPCs - do all adjacent foes take the 30% more damage (130+ from WW) or is the damage buffed for the mesmer targets only?

How about air spike on the ele NPCs?
